Western North Carolina is a beautiful region known for its stunning mountains, charming towns, and outdoor activities. Here’s a suggested 5-day itinerary for a family trip to Western North Carolina, highlighting various attractions, activities, and experiences.

Day 1: Arrival in Asheville

Morning:

• Arrive in Asheville, NC, and check into your accommodation (consider family-friendly hotels or vacation rentals).

• Grab a hearty breakfast at a local café like Tupelo Honey Cafe—YUM—southern cuisine.

Afternoon:

• Visit the Biltmore Estate, America’s largest privately-owned home. Explore the mansion, gardens, and winery. Kids will enjoy the outdoor activities and the estate's farm area. You’ll want to get tickets in advance and check out activities like horseback riding, falconry, etc.

Evening:

• If you’re on a couples trip, get a reservation at The Dining Room at Biltmore. It’s amazing! For dinner at a family-friendly restaurant in Asheville try Barley’s or The Corner Kitchen. A few miles down the road…we love Posana at Biltmore Park.

• Stroll through downtown Asheville to explore local shops and street performers.

Day 2: Blue Ridge Parkway and Outdoor Adventures

Morning:

• Start your day with breakfast at your accommodation or drive to The Silo Cookhouse at the Horseshoe Farm. Make sure to get a reservation. It’s gorgeous and fun.

• Drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping at scenic overlooks for breathtaking views.

Afternoon:

• Enjoy a family-friendly hike on the Craggy Gardens Trail (1.5 miles round trip) or the Hawksbill Summit Trail for a more challenging hike with rewarding views.

• Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the parkway’s many picnic areas.

Evening:

• Return to Asheville for dinner. Try 12 Bones Smokehouse for delicious BBQ.

• Consider attending a local music event or festival, if available.

Day 3: Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Morning:

• Depart early for Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about an hour’s drive from Asheville).

• Stop at the Sugarlands Visitor Center to gather information and maps about the park.

Afternoon:

• Have dinner at Jason Aldean's Kitchen or The Peddler Steakhouse.

• Enjoy breakfast at a local café, like Sunny Pointe or Moose Cafe.

• Take some time to explore local shops and perhaps visit a craft brewery if the kids are occupied.

• Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local favorite, such as White Duck Taco Shop.

**If it’s winter time, we really enjoyed Hatley Point for skiing. The restaurant, Smoke & Timber was excellent.
